Kitchen

At one time Kitchens were primarily practical, functional spaces, not particularly attractive and not all that functional either. Little attention was paid to traffic patterns, appliances, heavy and cumbersome as they were, stuck out like a truck in traffic dominating the space. Ergonomics as such were unheard of and ambience deemed a luxury.

Because kitchens have always been the hub of the home, much change was needed to serve the family of today. The combined functions of daily activities requires a multi-use space. Technology moved in and everything changed into the kitchens we see today, appliances do more so you can do less. You can make dinner, check the kids homework, run the dishwasher and catch the evening news from the TV in your refrigerator while junior is on the internet researching a project for school. Grab a glass of wine from that wine cooler tucked under the counter, make yourself comfortable in that cozy little seating area next to the kitchen and put your feet up! After all... you deserve it.

Combining maple and cherry cabinets and unique trim gave this kitchen great personality. Adding a glass shelf and stained glass design over the bar area to the right helped delineate the space.

Carefully orchestrated materials bring magic to this kitchen. Highly polished black granite on the counter travels up the backsplash and above the cabinets to the ceiling creating another dimension in space.

Vertical stripes of glass tile intermittently placed interrupt the continual black, giving relief. The back-lit stained class cabinet incorporates art into a utilitarian structure.

This secondary view allows you to see how the kitchen melds with the rest of the open space while not intruding. Each space is defined and complements each other.

It's always helpful to see something in context.
